Are there any dangers in drinking distilled water?

The main misconception about distilled water is the question of mineral removal. Minerals are essential for your body. They help control bone growth, regulate fluids, normalise nerve and muscle functions, keep your metabolism ticking along, help to grow connective tissue and much more.

However, do we get our minerals from our drinking water? No. The reality is that the main source of our minerals is always from our food and diet – not our drinking water. If you were to try to receive all of the minerals necessary for our bodies by drinking water, you’d have to drink a bathtub’s worth of water everyday. It’s not very feasible and not advisable.

There is no danger in removing the minerals in your water. In fact, removing minerals from your drinking water is safer and better for your body. Many of the minerals found in water are actually toxic and radioactive in nature. Some have even been found to cause cancer. We live in an era of pollution and it is affecting our water sources. Our drinking water contains many more disease-causing contaminants than beneficial minerals. So, if you’re trying to live your healthiest life, drinking pure, distilled water is the best way to do so.

What the experts say

To find out more about the many health benefits of drinking distilled water, check out what the experts say.

On minerals

Dr. Robert D. Willix, Jr. M.D.

It is only inorganic minerals rejected by the cells and tissues of the body which, if not evacuated, can cause arterial obstructions and even more damage. These are minerals which must be removed and which distilled water is able to collect.

Dr. Robert D. Willix, Jr. M.D.; Cardiac Surgeon; Editor-Health & Longevity Newsletter

If you wish to drink water, you should drink distilled water if it is available. Mountain spring water is not ideal for the human body because it contains inorganic minerals that the human body can neither use nor precipitate out. These inorganic minerals tend to hook up with cholesterol in the body and form a thick plaque in the arteries. Distilled water does not have this effect.
“When you eat a piece of fruit or a vegetable, you are consuming distilled water. The minerals are taken from the soil, the plant distills them, and then you consume them.

“You may have heard that distilled water “leaches” minerals from the body. That is partially true. The minerals that are leached (removed) by distilled water are the inorganic minerals that the body cannot use. The effect, therefore, is healthful.
Distilled water will not leach (organic) minerals that have become part of the structure of the body cell system. Once a mineral has become part of the cell structure, it cannot be leached.

Dr. Paul Bragg, N.D. Ph.T., from his book: The Shocking Truth About Water

Distilled water is the greatest solvent on earth. (It is) the only water that can be taken into the body without damage to the tissues.
“What we as scientists and the public have never realised is that minerals collected in the body from water are all inorganic minerals, which cannot be assimilated (digested) by the body. The only minerals that the body can utilise are the organic minerals (from fruits and vegetables). All other types of minerals are foreign substances to the body and must be disposed of or eliminated.
“Today, many progressive doctors prescribe distilled water to their patients. All kidney machines operate on distilled water.

Major General, Commander – Medical Corps. May 23, 1983

There is nothing about distilled water that would make it harmful for the body. It may be helpful to remember that distilled water is the only water available for crews of Naval vessels at sea.

On water and cancer

Dr Allen E Banik

Hard water seals each cell with a film, so oxygen cannot reach the imprisoned cells. Nature then develops new cells that thrive on less oxygen. These cells are called cancer cells. Distilled water often frees the imprisoned cells and allows the oxygen to reach the cells.

On obesity

Dr B Landone (who kept his weight perfect throughout his 98 years)

Anyone drinking distilled water exclusively would eventually return to normal weight. The reason: hard water film imprisons the cells so tissues become water-logged. Retention of fluid is the chief cause of obesity. Distilled water again breaks the cell barrier and the body weight returns to normal. Weightwatchers will lose weight, regardless of present diet if they include 4-6 glasses of distilled water each day taken a half hour before each meal.

On living a healthy life

Dr Walker (who lived to be 99 years old)

Drinking 6-10 glasses of high-quality water (distilled) can improve your health. Low-quality water is more pervasive than you think. Educate yourself so you can choose the water that is healthiest for you.” Problems Dr Norman Walker describes as being influenced by impure water include arthritis, varicose veins, cancer and even heart attacks – a major problem in so many communities and areas globally.

Peter A. Lodewick, M.D. in A Diabetic Doctor Looks at Diabetes

erat amet, scelerisque sed fringilla hymenaeos, tempor pulvinar habitasse pretium consectetuer, at et orci The only type of water that seems to be fit for consumption is distilled water… Distillation is the single most effective method of water purification.

Dr. David Kennedy, D.D.S. in How To Save Your Teeth: Toxic-Free Preventive Dentistry

Even tap water invariably contains a variety of poisons such as chlorine, chloramine, asbestos, pesticides, fluoride, copper, mercury, and lead. The best way to remove all these contaminants is by distilling.

Dr. Clifford C. Dennison, Ed. D.

(Distilled water)… helps cleanse my body of waste materials. Within the body, water acting as a solvent reaches into every cell to absorb and carry away the poisons that are formed as a part of the life process. Lots of pure distilled water is needed for this task. We all know that it is easier to wash dishes in a sink full of clean water than in a sink full of dirty water. The blood circulates 400 gallons of water through the kidneys each day. Common sense tells us that when the water we consume is pure, it can do a much better job than when it is already contaminated with toxic substances.

Dr. John Yiamoyuiannis, Ph.D. in Fluoride: The Aging Factor

The home distiller is the best method and also the best way to get distilled water. It is the only reliable home water purification for taking fluoride out of the water.

Dr. Michael Colgan, Ph.D., CCN in Optimum Sports Nutrition

Far and away the cleanest water is produced by the new home distillers.
